Concept
Note:
Mimesis, as
theorized by diverse thinkers from Plato to Erich Auerbach to Homi Bhabha, can simply be used here in the sense of all
imitative and performative arts or works and genres of literature ranging from
poetry, fiction, drama, folklore, dance, music, painting, sculpture, theatre,
and film to television.
The consubstantial hypostases of “media, market &
mimesis” make a trending trinity of the present juncture where the copy earns
more than the original, and where
‘selfies’ are the paramount promotional pranks for the self. These three
riveting realties in question inter-play and inter-penetrate one another in
sublte and obvious ways. The ‘terrestrial’ market brings back the
‘non-terrestrial’ media and mimesis to their homes. The forces of market and
media construct our everyday reality and determine its representation. With the
dramatic change in the landscape of media, with the emergence of social media
and blogs, with the fall of walls between media and mimetic texts, renderings
or performances, with the erosion of genre specific domains, the act of
resembling, the act of expression, and the presentation of the self, narration,
narrative, narratology performance, portrayal and picturization have completely
transformed. ‘Writing the Unreadable’ & ‘Speaking the Unlistenable’
phenomena in media and mimesis,
‘Tongue & Teeth’ relationship or the ‘Is’ & ‘Is Not’ substitution
between media and market, media and mimesis
or market and mimesis need to be
understood, explored or investigated to make sense of the world we inhabit and
our life in it.
Subthemes
other than the listed can also be included and a separate panel can be arranged
if a group of five delegates is registered.
Sadaa® (Society for Analysis, Dialogue, Application
and Action), registered
under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958 vide Regn. No.
254/Jaipur/2009-10, has been organizing conferences for teacher development
and promotion of quality research. The first international conference was
held from 27 to 29 January 2012 on the theme “Behaving Beyond Barriers,
Boundaries & Biases: Creativity, Criticality & Communication”
in association with the Department of Urdu & Persian, University of
Rajasthan, Jaipur. The second international conference was organized in
association with Jaipur National University, Jaipur on the theme “E-learning
Emancipatory English: Fast Forwarding the Future” from 29 to 31 January
2013. The third international conference was organized in association with
Manipal University, Jaipur on the theme “Language, Literature & Library:
Disruptive Digressions & Digital Dimensions” from 22 to 24 January 2015.
Sadaa
International Conference on Miniature Paintings organized from 29 to 31
December 2013 on the theme “Timeless Miniature Paintings” was the part
of a separate series of conferences on fine arts and was an attempt to create
environment for the revival & restoration of the rich traditions of
miniature paintings.
Sadaa National
Conference on Film & Theory was held on the theme “Cinematic Codes:
Concerned Communications” from 26 to 28 September 2013 in collaboration of
S S Jain Subodh PG College, Jaipur.
Subodh College
is an
autonomous institution affiliated to University of Rajasthan is one of the
leading colleges of Rajasthan. It has been imparting quality education and
promoting excellence in teaching, learning and research for last six decades.
Established in 1954 by a committed team of social workers and philanthropist, the college
has been awarded the status of College
with Potential for Excellence by UGC and Model College by the Govt. of Rajasthan
in 2007. In March 2011, the college was re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade
with CGPA of 3.72 which being the highest rating in Northern
India.
Jaipur, the capital
city of Rajasthan, was founded on 18 November 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh
II, the ruler of Amber, after whom the city has been named. Jaipur is known as
the Pink City of India because of the color used exclusively in the walled
city. The city was built on the principles of Shilpa Shastra, the science of
Indian Architecture. The city was divided into nine blocks. Two of which
contained the state buildings and palaces, while the remaining seven were
allotted to the public. Huge fortification walls were built, along with seven
strong gates. The directions of each street and market are east to West and
North to South. The Eastern gate is called Suraj (Sun) Pol, while the Western
gate is called Chand (Moon) Pol. There are three gates facing East, West, and a
Northern gate (known as Zorawar Singh gate) which faces toward the ancestral
capital of Amber. Jaipur is rich in history and culture. Here the past comes
alive in magnificent forts and palaces. The bustling bazaars of Jaipur, famous
for jewellery, fabric and shoes, possess a timeless quality and are surely a
treasure-trove for the shoppers. This fascinating city with its romantic charm
takes you to an epoch of royalty and tradition.
Jaipur has a hot
semi-arid steppe climate. Temperature in the month of January varies from 8°C
(46°F) to 23°C (73°F).
